The Central Otago cherry harvest starts in early to mid-December and runs through to late January – early February, depending on the season. Each year Cherry Partners seeks motivated people to work in the packhouse and help us pack our growers’ cherries.

We pack some of the world’s highest quality cherries which are then shipped by air or sea to markets around the world. A quality focus and attention to detail are attributes we’re looking for to ensure these cherries are sorted, packed and sent on to their final destination in the finest possible condition.

Packhouse work is all indoors, we have several types of roles available. You will need to have an appropriate work visa and transport as our location in Tarras is a small distance from shops and amenities found in Cromwell or Wanaka.

We offer fixed term contracts, great on-site facilities, and the statutory days around Christmas and New Year off.

Seasonal Packhouse Staff Positions Available.

Cherry Packers

These roles are located on the grading line, packing cherries into 1kg, 2kg, and 5kg boxes and into punnets.

Cherry Graders

These roles are located on the grading line, sorting and checking cherries for quality prior to being packed in the box.

Box Makers

These roles erect boxes and prepare them ready to receive cherries with liners and soaker pads.

Coolstore Positions

These roles are based in the coolstore stacking the cherry boxes onto pallets and preparing and recording the pallets for dispatch to market. The coolstore is a working cold environment and appropriate clothing will be provided.

Inwards / Outwards Goods

These roles are responsible for managing the receipt of cherries from the orchard into the packhouse and then dispatching the packed, palletised cherries onto trucks for onward shipping. Forklift licenses will be required.

Quality Control Positions

These roles are located throughout the cherry packing process ensuring that quality is maintained and cool chain processes are effectively in place.

Administration

There are a limited number of accounting, HR and payroll administration positions available each season.
